We share all the demands of the Existrans collective and those of the Collectif Intersexes et Alliés-e-s (CIA).

To avoid duplication, we will not post claims specific to intersex persons in the list below (they are listed in the CIA claim list).

Administrative – Civil status

The deletion of the so-called “gender” entry on civil status and on all identity documents (as well as the deletion of the first digit of the social security number);

In the meantime, the change of the so-called “gender” entry to the civil status, free and unencumbered by the town hall, on simple declaration;

The rewriting of the circular for town halls, which regulates the change of first name to civil status, whose legitimate interest in transitude currently explicitly encourages discrimination based on appearance.

Health

The free choice of medical pathways, de-psychiatrized, depathologized and based on informed consent, with continued reimbursement in France and abroad;

The end of the infantilizing and psychiatrising practices of imposed follow-up and validation in multidisciplinary commission (RCP), as well as the end of the de facto monopoly of hospital protocols, going against the fundamental freedom to choose one’s doctor (= dismantling of SoFECT/FPATH protocol teams);

The removal of “gender incongruence” and “gender dysphoria” from international diagnostic manuals (DSM V and CIM 11) for a real de-psychiatrization of transition pathways;

The implementation of an exemption mechanism other than ALD 31 (pathologisator and source of discrimination) for:

  • Supervise the management of potentially requested care in the context of medical transitions,

  • Put an end to the arbitrariness of doctors-consultants and the inequalities of treatment from one health insurance fund to another;

The training of French doctors and surgeons for quality, respectful and de-psychiatrized medical follow-up;

Funding for research and communication on the health of trans and/or intersex people and their partners (HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, STIs, long-term effects of hormones, drug interactions, etc.), involving associations of trans and intersex people;

The launch of general and sexual health prevention campaigns specifically targeting trans and intersex populations, involving associations of trans and intersex people;

Funding research in gender studies and cultural studies, done by and for trans and intersex students and researchers.

Law – Discrimination

    • The adoption of transitional provisions to guarantee the continuity of the rights of trans and/or intersex persons who have changed their Social Security number and to overcome the difficulties encountered, in particular with the health insurance and retirement organizations;

    •  The training and awareness raising of people in contact with trans and intersex populations (health, education, administration, justice, social environment, prisons, associations, etc.), in connection with the associations of persons concerned;

    • The implementation of measures to promote access for trans and/or intersex people to higher education and the world of work, and to protect trans and intersex employees;

    • The end of gender segregation in sports competitions that involve tests for gender identification and medical pressure on trans and/or intersex athletes;

    • Funding awareness campaigns for visibility and against transphobia, in collaboration with trans people’s associations;

    • The abandonment of laws that criminalize sex work (and their clients), which put trans and intersex people at risk;

    • Respect for the human rights of trans and intersex people in prison;

    • The immediate, unconditional and “audit-free” regularization of all trans and intersex migrants;

    • Supporting children and adolescents in their self-determination: respect and protection of all gender expression, respect for their names and gender, especially in the school environment, Informed consent-based access to puberty hormones and/or blockers as well as other medical procedures and access to civil status change;

    • Media awareness of the LGBT Journalists’ Association (AJL) kit for respect for trans and intersex people;

    • The end of “conversion therapies”.

  • Put an end to mutilating and “normalizing” practices such as genital surgery, psychological treatment and other medical treatments through legal and other means. Intersex people must be empowered to make their own decisions affecting their own bodily integrity, physical autonomy and self-determination; 


  • End pre-implantation genetic diagnostics, prenatal treatment and testing, and selective abortion of intersex fetuses; 


  • Stop the infanticide and murder of intersex people;


  • End non-consensual sterilization of intersex people;


  • Pathologize variations in sexual characteristics in medical manuals, protocols and classifications such as the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases;


  • Register intersex children as girls or boys, with the awareness that, like everyone else, they may grow up identifying themselves to another gender; 


  • Ensure that sex or gender classifications can be changed through a simple administrative procedure at the request of the individuals concerned. All adults and eligible minors should be able to choose between female, male, non-binary, or other multiple options. In the future, as with race or religion, sex or gender should not be a category on birth certificates or identification documents for anyone;


  • Raise awareness of gender issues and the rights of intersex people in society at large;


  • Create and facilitate safe, supportive and festive environments for intersex people, their families and their communities; 


  • Ensure that individuals have the right to complete information and access to their own medical records and history;


  • Ensure that all health professionals and providers who have a specific role to play in the well-being of intersex people are properly trained to provide quality services;


  • Provide adequate recognition for the suffering and injustice caused to intersex persons in the past, and adequately provide remedies, reparations, access to justice and the right to the truth;


  • Building anti-gender discrimination legislation, in addition to other foundations, and ensuring protection against intersectional discrimination;


  • Ensure access to all human and citizen rights for intersex people, including the right to marry and found a family;


  • Ensure that intersex people can participate in sports competitions, at all levels, according to their legal gender. Intersex athletes who have been humiliated or stripped of their titles should receive reparation and reinstatement; 


  • Recognize that the medicalization and stigmatization of intersex people causes significant trauma and mental health problems;


  • In order to ensure the physical integrity and well-being of intersex people, provide peer and psychosocial support that is autonomous and non-pathologizing, accessible to intersex people throughout their lives (upon request) as well as parents and caregivers.
